Our father, James (Stoney) Eldon Johnston Jr., peacefully left this world on August 28, 2022, at the age of 82 while under the loving care of Hernando Pasco Hospice. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts. We would love you to come and honor his life at Hodges Funeral Home: Visitation 5pm 7pm Thursday, September 1; Funeral Service, 1pm Friday, September 2; Graveside service afterward at Townsend House Cemetery.
Stoney was born June 14, 1940, in Citrus County, Florida to James Eldon Johnston Sr. and Mable Lynn Rhoades Johnston. He was a 1958 graduate of Pasco High School. Stoney went on to work for Crawler Rail & Roller and the Florida Department of Transportation as an inspector and utilities engineer. He married Cecile Cribbs in 1959 and had two daughters, Kimberly Renae Johnston Pilote in 1964 and Kipper Marie Johnston Cacopardo in 1966. He married Alice Marie Faulkner in 1970, who preceded him in death in 2018. They had twin sons, James "Eldon" Johnston III, and William "Daily" Johnston in 1977.
Stoney is also survived by eight grandchildren: Josh Bick, Aaron Billings, Ben Bick, Zach Pilote, Drew Johnston, Angelo Cacopardo, Jessica Cacopardo, and Ally Johnston; three great grandchildren, Kieran Billings, Lucan Billings, and Emily Bick; and seven siblings: James Earnest, Ricky, John, Patricia, Martha, Peggy, and Larry along with many cousins.
Stoney has been a member of the Dade City Church of Christ for the last 59 years. He served as an auxiliary police officer with the Dade City Police Department in the late 1970s through early 1980s. Stoney was known for his fudge he loved to share with all, love of friendly conversations with anyone he met on his trips to run errands in town, his overalls, and his favorite cap he proudly wore, stating that "Jesus is my Boss."
Memorial contributions to the Dade City Church of Christ are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
