Obituary

Hudson, James L. Hardrock, age 82, peacefully passed away on April 15 surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmy is a descendant of the pioneer family that settled Hudson, Florida. He was born in Dade City, Florida, February 4, 1931 and is predeceased by his parents Leon and Flossie Hudson, his brother Wyman and sister Jane McCabe. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen King Hudson, daughters and sons-in-law Sherrie and Rodger Elgar of Tampa and Betsey and Kevin Winslow of Jacksonville. Grandchildren are Scott, Amanda and Kathryn Winslow and Lauren and Sarah Elgar. Jimmy graduated from Pasco High School in 1949 where he was a proud member of the Championship Pasco Pirate football team. He attended the University of Florida where his education was interrupted by four years of service in the U.S. Air Force. While serving in Germany, he played baseball on the U.S. Air Force team and served as a European recruiter for the team. Upon returning from Germany he attended Florida Southern College where he studied citrus. He worked in the citrus industry with Lykes Pasco, Evans Properties and ended his career working with Withlacoochee River Electric Co-op. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dade City where he served his church faithfully. His greatest pleasures were family gatherings, card games with friends, golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling and coaching the Dade City Little League Rangers. His memory will endure with family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 U.S. Hwy. 301, Dade City, FL 33525. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 19, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 37628 Church Avenue, Dade City, FL followed by interment at Chapel Hill Gardens. Donations in his memory may be made to My Legacy endowment fund, First United Methodist Church, Dade City, FL.
