On August 10, 2016, James Jim Stewart Hewitt, originally of Bucyrus, OH, and residing in Zephyrhills, FL, passed from this world. He is preceded in death by his father, Earl Buchanan Hewitt, and his mother, Virginia Frye Hewitt, both of Bucyrus, OH. Jim is survived by one brother, Jack Hewitt and wife Kay Hewitt of Bucyrus, OH. He leaves behind his three children, Erik Hewitt and wife Christy Hewitt of Louisville, OH; Ty Hewitt and wife Michelle Hewitt of Waxhaw, NC; and Kara Hewitt Parker and husband Alex Parker of Charlottesville, VA. Jim also leaves behind five grandchildren, Samantha and Alex Hewitt of Louisville, OH; Logan and Chase Hewitt of Waxhaw, NC; and Oliver Parker of Charlottesville, VA. Jim was a graduate of Bucyrus High School class of 1964 and was active in numerous sports including baseball, track and field, basketball, and football. He was a 3 year Letterman and the highlight was being co-champions of the NOL his senior season as a starting defensive end. Following high school, Jim served active duty in the Naval Reserves in 1966-1968; including duty on the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin in the waters off Vietnam and in the Mediterranean. Jim was kind hearted and always willing to help friends and neighbors and he will be missed in his community. One of Jims passions was refinishing furniture and he was often found visiting second hand shops in search of furniture to save and give new life. Many conversations with Jim revolved around his love for Ohio State football- GO BUCKEYES!, a new furniture project, his love of gardening and golf, or his dog, Chop. In keeping with Jims wishes, he has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered by his children and grandchildren.
