James "Jake" Randall Harper, aged 91, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024. He was born in Whitehall, Georgia on Sunday, October 2nd, 1932 to parents Susie Connell Harper and John Lloyd Harper. He grew up with Pat, Buella (Boots), Jean, and Maudie Sue. James married Geraldine Moody on May 3, 1951, in Georgia. He lived in Georgia, South Carolina, California, Florida, and multiple military stations. James served in the Army from 1948-1970 and was a decorated veteran, earning a Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts, 4 Bronze Stars, and multiple medals of achievement. He worked as a truck driver and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and RVing in his free time. James is survived by his children Lynn Meinhardt, Mary Hope Ponchot, Jane Randale McCraw, and Patricia Margaret Powell; grandchildren Randy Ponchot, Christina Johnson, Joseph Ponchot, Thomas "TJ" Ponchot, Charla Harper-Hagen, Jasin Powell, Tony McCraw, Taylor Willis, and Derrick Powell; great-grandchildren Tommy Ponchot, Haylee Ponchot, Dakota Murray, Justin Hagen, LT Ponchot, Tanya Simmons, Clarissa Hagen, Cameron Baines, Seth Ponchot, Kyle Ponchot, Dani Powell, Derrick Powell Jr., Harlie Powell, Isabella Powell, Lily Powell; and great-great-grandchildren Adrianna Ponchot, Brianna Hanson, Mikey Ponchot, William Ponchot, Jaxon Mauer, Oliver Simmons, and Juniper Mauer. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse Geraldine Harper, daughter Susan Geraldine Harper, and great-grandchildren Michelle Ponchot and Michael Ponchot. Services will begin at 10 am on March 2, 2024, at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City with the burial immediately to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.
