James L. DuPree, 80, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018, surrounded by loving family. Jimmy was born in Dade City, Florida, on July 14, 1938, to Lucian and Edith DuPree. He grew up in Dade City and after graduating from Pasco High School, enlisted in the Air Force for four years. On November 30, 1956, Jimmy married his sweetheart Mary (Kitty) Bauknight.
During his enlistment, he and Kitty had a daughter, Beverly. Jimmy was a member of the first graduating class of the University of South Florida. He taught 6th grade at Pasco Elementary for one year then chose to pursue his military career as an officer in the Air Force. Jimmy and Kitty welcomed their second child, Kimberly, as he was going through Officer Training School. He served our country as a Radar Navigator for 18 years. After his retirement as a Major, Jimmy resumed his career of teaching. He taught in Citrus and Pasco Counties for 17 years before retiring.
Jimmy and Kitty moved to Blairsville, Georgia, and enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada in their 5th wheel travel trailer. In 2016 they chose to move to Zephyrhills to be closer to family.
Throughout his life, Jimmy enjoyed his time with family. He shared his love for water sports, camping, snowmobiling, and playing games with friends and family.
Jimmy leaves a legacy of a strong love of family and country. Greeting Jimmy in Heaven are his father, Lucian DuPree, and his brother Randall Keith DuPree. Left to honor him are his wife of 62 years, Kitty DuPree; his mother Edith DuPree; his brother Ronald DuPree and wife Neva; his children Beverly Antilley and husband Vic, and Kimberly Butaud and husband Wade; his grandchildren Kathi Kapsner and husband Ryan, Ashley Antilley, Tisha Milheiser and husband Tony, and Justin Butaud; his great-grandchildren Kaylan and Ava Kapsner, and Kori Milheiser; as well as many treasured friends and family.
The family will receive friends and family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, from 3-5 p.m. at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 US Hwy 301, Dade City, Florida. A memorial service will follow directly after.
