James (Jim) Chris Alligood, Sr. of St. Leo, Florida passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Rucki Hospice Care Center after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his loving with Sheila Murphy Alligood; his children Angie Alligood Guy (David), Tiffannie Alligood, Stacey Alligood (Mike Johnson), Ron Weltmer (Camille), Eric Weltmer (Alicia), and (James) Chris Alligood, Jr. (Shari); twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Jim was born in Eustis, Florida to Doris Brown Hutch and Carl Alligood. He was raised by J. C. Hutch his stepfather. He attended and graduated from Groveland High School in Groveland, Florida. In his early years, Jim worked at Trans World Airlines (TWA) and at the Kennedy Space Center. After moving his family out west, Jim worked for many years in the oil fields of Wyoming before returning to his native Florida. In his hometown of Groveland, he owned and operated a local hardware store. A few years later, he made his home in Glade Springs, Virginia where he was a cattle rancher and hay farmer before finally retiring.

Jim loved the Lord, spending time with his family, gospel music, and working outdoors. Those who had the pleasure of meeting him would tell you he was a master storyteller, having a vast repertoire of yarns he could weave regarding the life he lived and experienced. He was a friend to many, never meeting a stranger. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever needed.

A celebration of life will be held for Jim on Saturday, April 6, 2024 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church located at 10011 US Highway 301, Dade City, Florida 33525.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to Grace Baptist Church or The Rucki Hospice Care Center located at 5760 Dean Dairy Road, Zephyrhills, Florida 33541.
