Jack Hodgen Tew Jr., 73, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025. A devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jack lived a life marked by purpose, compassion, and unwavering determination.
Born on March 28, 1952, in Hope Mills, North Carolina, Jack was the beloved son of Jack Hodgen Tew Sr. and Effie Colleen Simmons. He later moved to Tampa, Florida, where he graduated from King High School and went on to establish himself as a successful entrepreneur and business owner. Throughout his life, Jack called both Zephyrhills and Tampa home, though his ventures and properties extended from Lehigh Acres all the way up through Virginia.
A self-made man in every sense, Jack built multiple businesses from the ground up through sheer grit, hard work, and perseverance. He was also a patent-awarded innovator, admired for his forward-thinking ideas and ability to bring them to life. His professional success, however, was only one part of a deeply impactful life.
Jack was a generous philanthropist who dedicated countless hours and resources to charitable causes. He was actively involved in organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Loving Hands Ministry, and numerous veterans' groups. A true patriot and pillar of his community, Jack was driven by a heart for helping others, especially the poor and needy.
Those who knew Jack remember him for his integrity, warm heart, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His friendships were deep and enduring, a testament to his loyalty and kind spirit. Jack lived life on his own terms, leaving behind a powerful legacy of strength, generosity, and love.
Jack is survived by his loving daughters: Jacquelyn Tew; Jessica Scott and her husband Bronson Scott; Jenna Tew and her husband Danny Wardell; and Jaira Tew. He was a proud grandfather to Saige Schill and her husband Timon Schill, Micah Augenstein, Bethany Augenstein, Cole Scott, Wren Tew-Wardell, Porter Scott, Kyleigh McDade, Avah McDade, Jamaiel Jones Jr., and Rashadi Jones, and a cherished great-grandfather to Milo and Jasper Schill.
He is also survived by his brothers: Steven M. Tew Sr. and his wife Christine, Donald W. Tew and his wife Cheryl, Michael Tew, and Tony E. Tew; along with his loyal pet, Boo.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Hodgen Tew Sr. and Effie Colleen Simmons, and his beloved sister, Sherry L. Bowen.
A visitation will be held on June 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hodges Family Funeral Home, located at 11441 US Highway 301, Dade City, Florida. A service to honor and celebrate Jack's life will follow at 12:00 PM at the same location.
