IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Homer Clyde
Hobby
July 13, 1941 – January 6, 2026
H. Clyde Hobby, 84, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away leaving behind a legacy of professional dedication, deep community roots, and steadfast devotion to family.
Born in Dade City, Florida on July 13, 1941, to Homer Seal Hobby and Gladys Anderson Hobby, Clyde maintained a lifelong connection to Pasco County, a place that shaped both his personal values and professional calling. After graduating from Pasco High School and completing his undergraduate degree at Stetson University and his J.D. at Stetson University College of Law, he was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1965, beginning a legal career initially in Dade City that would span more than five decades. He practiced law primarily in Pasco County, including from his offices in Dade City with McClain & Hobby, then in New Port Richey, and became widely respected for his work in real estate, land use, banking and local government matters. He was very proud to serve his alma mater through membership on the board of the Stetson University School of Music and on the Board of Overseers at Stetson University College of Law.
Throughout his career, Clyde was known for his steady judgment, integrity, and practical approach to the law. He represented individuals, families, and businesses during periods of great growth and change in the region, helping guide clients through consequential decisions that had an impact on Pasco County and our region. His efforts on behalf Pasco County greatly contributed to the State's decision to construct the Suncoast Parkway, he obtained the funds necessary from the State to restore the Historic Pasco County Courthouse to its former glory, and he was a driving force in the settlement that created Tampa Bay Water and the ensuing reduction in the environmental damage that had been caused by over-pumping of wellfields in Pasco County. He was also proud to have served when a young lawyer as a Judge of the City of St. Leo, Florida, and as a former Small Claims Court Judge of Pasco County, Florida.
His professional life was inseparable from his commitment to the community he called home. He served his community in many ways, through leadership in the Jaycees, Rotary International (serving as the charter President of the Seven Spring Rotary Club), and the Pioneer Florida Museum. He was a member of the Pasco County Planning Commission and many other non-profits and service organizations. He was devoted in his Christian faith and served his beloved St. Mary's Episcopal Church as Senior Warden. He was so pleased that both of his sons served alongside him at their church as acolytes on those many Sundays in which he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister or Lay Reader.
Beyond his work, Clyde valued family above all else. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joy Goode Hobby; his sons, Blake Goode Hobby and Clarke Goode Hobby; daughters-in-law, June and Laura Hobby; and his cherished grandchildren, Charles Thomas Hobby and Virginia Anne Hobby. He took great pride in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, and his love for his family remained the defining constant of his life.
While Clyde was a season ticketholder of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 1975 (the year before the franchise began play) and loved the Bucs, all who knew him knew of his fanatical, passionate love for the Florida Gators. His first memory was of listening to a Gator game on the radio and the first time he watched television was to watch the Gators first bowl game. He supported UF
throughout his many years as a Bull Gator and was a member of the University of Florida 1853 Society, which recognizes leadership in giving to the University. He loved nothing more than being in the stands at Florida Field with his family and friends, linked arm-in-arm as they sang "We are the Boys of old Florida" in unison.
Clyde was a man of quiet strength, loyalty to lifelong friendships, and enduring ties to Dade City and Pasco County. His presence leaves a lasting imprint on the family he loved and the community he served for generations.
A service of remembrance will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Dade City on January 9, 2026 at 2 P.M.
