Porter, Helen York, 90 of Dade City, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in Dade City. She was born June 15, 1922 in Mapleton, ME to Lewis & Daisy Fern Jones York and moved to this area 30 years ago from Vernon, CT. She retired from Pratt Whitney in East Hartford after 30 years of building airplanes and always said, I built them, but I wont fly them. She was an original Rosie the Riveter during WW II and enjoyed sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ray Porter; and 4 siblings: Ace York, Eldon York, Doreen York and Faustena Alley. She is survived by her daughter: Vivian Porter Striano; 3 sisters: Mildred Loomis, Gloria Morrill, Louise Greenier; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11am Friday, March 29, 2013 at Chapel Hill Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to HPH Hospice in her memory.
