Obituary

Mary Helen Davis was born in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Langston Earley and Lillian Goggins on December 13, 1927.

Helen, also known as (Ma- Helen), attended Pittsburgh Public schools. In April 27, 1944, she gave birth to her only son, George Earley, he was the apple of her eye.

She was a domestic engineer for 20 years and worked for many wealthy families in the Pittsburgh area. She was well known in the community.

In the 1960s, Helen started her own business. She opened a BBQ grill shack in the Hill District of Pittsburgh and then a second one in the Homewood area. Many of the local residences loved to come eat her famous barbecue ribs and potato salad.

Helen was baptized at Mount Ararat Baptist church where she was a faithful member. Helen loved to bowl; she joined a bowling league and was very competitive. She also loved to do needle point rugs and murals for her family and friends.

In 1964 she married the love of her life, the late Fred Davis Jr., who was a Corporal in the United States Army, and worked as a Medic. After his Honorable discharge, he worked 30 years with Price Waterhouse, where he later retired. Fred and Helen enjoyed retirement together.

In 1980s, she and Fred later moved and lived in Fort Washington, Maryland, where she could be closer to her son, George, his wife and their children.

In 2012, Helen moved with her son and his family to Dade City, Florida to enjoy the rest of her retired years. On January 13, 2019, Helen made her final move and went home to be with her Lord and Savior.
