IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold "Andy" Anderson
Krig
February 28, 1943 – July 18, 2019
Harold Anderson "Andy" Krig, age 76, passed away from a prolonged illness on July 18, 2019 in Dade City, FL. He was born February 28, 1943 to Harold Anderson Krig, Sr. and Virginia Winsemann Krig in Hollywood, FL and was a resident of Darby, FL for the past 45 years.
Most anyone who knew Andy could vouch for the fact that he was the wildest funniest man they ever met. His sense of humor knew no boundaries. St. Peter best watch out because the greatest salesman of all time just showed up. If things in heaven have to be purchased, the salesman arrived today that will be hustling whatever product necessary. Andys ambition started at a young age growing up in Gainesville, FL when he began peddling Grit newspapers on his bicycle, and later moved on to sell peanuts at Florida field. Once in high school he began crossing the Florida-Georgia line to purchase cherry bombs to bring back into the state to sell to his friends. He told a story once of a group of guys who blew up the school latrines, and when it came time for punishment Andy claimed innocence as he was only the seller of the product. Just the guy trying to make a dollar.
Andy went on from Gainesville High School to achieve a perfect score on the Air Force qualifying exam. It was reported in the Gainesville Sun in the Sun Spots section that "he was believed to have been the first high school graduate in the state to have made such a score". In 1961 he went on to join the United States Air Force. He was proud of his time in the Air Force often telling stories of working on the Hound Dog missiles used in the Vietnam War. The Air Force took him to Albany, GA where he met and married his wife Nita of almost 56 years. In 1967 he went on from the Air Force to open his own television sales and repair business shop then later sold Miracle Maid Cookware. At the end of the 60s he and Nita moved to Jacksonville and he subsequently took a job with Exide Corporation as a battery repairman and ended up becoming their top battery salesman in the Southern District. It was while he was working with Exide that he began calling on farming customers in Belle Glade, Florida, thus his interest for farming was piqued. From a acre home garden he went on to truck farm strawberries and tomatoes for 30 years, retiring in 2006. During this same 30 years Andy had so many side interests that were more than hobbies. He had a love for building model ships, planes, and trains. In the 80s he became a gemologist and jeweler creating many beautiful pieces. In the 90s his interest turned to Harley and Honda motorcycles and he became a member of the Iron Butt Association where he had to log 1,000 miles in 24 hours. His most recent venture was a woodworking hobby turned small business adventure. Andy was a shrewd but hardworking businessman. He was proud of his work and achievements and his work ethic was impeccable.
Aside from all his business adventures Andy and his wife Nita raised three children together, traveled, and made lots of lasting memories. Andys life, like himself, has been very eclectic and unique. He provided a very interesting life to all who were involved with his. He loved Florida football from early on, later cheering on Appalachian State University football because he was so proud that his son played and attended school there. In recent years his football interest included Tennessee football which connected him to his son-in-law. There wasnt a topic that he didnt know something about. All one had to do was ask him what time it was and he would explain to them how to build a clock. The past four months of his life he became a cigar connoisseur because as he said "what have I got to lose at this point!" He was a practical joker who knew no boundaries. He lived a 1,000 lives in 76 short years. His life was one well lived.
A beloved husband, dad, daddy, grandpa, and pop-pop, he is survived by his wife of almost 56 years Mary Juanita "Nita" Cohn Krig, his daughter Lisa Michelle Bowen and husband David of Kingsport, TN, his son Eric Anderson Krig of Dade City, FL, his grandchildren Joshua Greif and wife Melissa, Elizabeth Larkin and husband Jacob, Kacy Krig, Erica Krig, Cheyanna Krig, Travis Lannom, his great-grandchildren Payton Larkin, Liam Larkin, Reagan Greif, Waylon Larkin, his sister Lynn Krig, his brother Oscar Sam Harris, Jr, many nieces, nephews, friends, and business associates (both present and former). He went out on his own terms, and can now rest easy and join his son Michael "Aaron" Krig, who preceded him in death, and who he so desperately missed these past 8 years, in eternal rest until we all meet again. He was also preceded in death by his mother Virginia Winsemann Harris and father Harold Anderson Krig, Sr.
A celebration of life will take place at 11:30am Friday, July 26, 2019 in the 301 Chapel of Hodges Funeral Home in Dade City. Andy will be laid to rest following the celebration of life on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Military rites will be provided by the US Air Force.
