Obituary

PALMER, Gordon Robert, 97, of Zephyrhills, died May 17, 2020. He was born November 28, 1922, in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, attained the rank of sergeant and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He graduated from University of Florida and moved to Tampa where he and wife Dorothy raised their family. For 30 years Gordon served as a Boy Scout leader. He also served as an elder at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church. He was a man of many interests and built several boats and a motor home. He enjoyed woodworking, taught himself to play the organ and weave. His interest in trains led to building a room for his miniature train collection. He retired from the FHA where he was assistant to the director of the Central Florida Regional Office. For the past 7 years Gordon resided at American House in Zephyrhills, FL.He is survived by his sons Steven (Kathy) of Havana, Florida, Robert of Dade City, Florida, William (Harriet) of Maryville, Tennessee, six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. A future memorial service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
