Gerald F. Wilson, Age 92, of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family January 17th. Gerald was born in Troy, N.Y. to James and Margret Wilson on September 20, 1933. He moved to Zephyrhills with his wife Doris in 2000 and together created the second phase of their lives.
Gerald graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1952. Gerald joined the Naval Reserve at the age of 17 in 1951. His commitment was 2 years active reserve, 2 years active duty full time in the Navy and 4 years Navy Reserve. Prior to joining the reserve Gerald went to Barber School, became a Barber Apprentice license and became a Navy Barber.
Gerald's passions were Family, Religion, Health and Work.
Family; Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Marie Mack Wilson (1931–2012), to whom he was married in 1956; and his parents, James Frederick Wilson (1903–1991) and Margaret Burke Wilson (1906–1984).
He was survived by four children, Keith Wilson, Tod Wilson, Keri Fogg and Traci Wilson; three grandchildren, Ashley Fogg, Kelsey Flood and Bradley Fogg and two great-grand-children, Maverick and Kinsley Flood.
He was an active member at St. Joseph's Church at the 4 PM Saturday Mass as an Usher.
Twice weekly Gerald volunteered at AdventHealth Zephyrhills Hospital as an Ambassador.
For three quarters of his life, Gerald Barbered in New York, retired, moved to Florida and started cutting hair part time for a few years, retired and decided he still needed to continue to provide barber services to the Community and his friends. Gerald was cutting hair until December 2025.
Gerald will be remembered for his love of Family, God, Friends and his generosity to the Forest Lake Community where Gerald would call Bingo, become President of the HOA and with the help of his wife of 58 years assist in the Community Dinners and Dance Nights. For his 90th birthday party a number of his friends attended his first skydive at the Zephyrhills Skydive City. This second chapter of life brought him many close friends throughout the community, and along with weekly golf and volunteering, gave him one of the best lives a 92-year-old man could ever dream of.
Friends may call upon the family 2-4 PM Wednesday, January 21st at Hodges Family Funeral Home, Zephyrhills. A funeral mass will be conducted 2 PM Friday, January 23rd at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zephyrhills. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery.
