Obituary

Gerald Lee Patrick, age 89, went home to be with Jesus on October 24, 2024, at Gulfside Hospice House in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Jerry (as he was known) was born on September 4, 1935, in Port Huron, Michigan. He was the youngest child of Albert and Goldie (Rosebury) Patrick.

Jerry attended school in Port Huron until he joined the Air Force in 1953, after he served nearly two (2) years in the National Guard. While in the Air Force he served in the Air Police in the states and in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Taiwan. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Paling on May 18, 1957. They were married for 67 years. During this time, he worked for the Southeastern Michigan Gas Company for 37 years. He was instrumental in helping to organize the Volunteer Ambulance Service in Carsonville, Michigan. He was also a volunteer firefighter and served as Carsonville Chief of Police. During the time as Chief of Police, he also served as a Deputy for the Sanilac County Sheriff Department and volunteered with the Marine Division of the Sheriff's Department.

Prior to retirement, Jerry served as a Deacon at Deckerville Bible Church as well as serving, with Betty, as Word of Life Youth Leaders for many years.

After retiring in 1994, Jerry and Betty moved to Zephyrhills, Florida into Betmar Acres Mobile Home Park and later moved into a villa in Driftwood. They joined the Alliance Church of Zephyrhills where Jerry served as Head Deacon and Head Usher for many years as well as being the greeter at the front door of the church.

Jerry will be remembered for one of his many "dadisms" which is "I am going to give you a raise, a raise to the second floor."

Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty, of 67 years, his children, Donald Patrick, Linda (Cass) Young, Christopher (Pam) Patrick, and Melissa (Mike) Cook as well as eight (8) grandchildren, eleven (11) great grandchildren and one expected great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Peggy Gardner, his brothers, Carl Donald, Junior Charles, Shirley, Orville, Raymond, Eugene, and Guy.

The celebration of Life will take place at the Alliance Church of Zephyrhills located at 6251 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, Florida 33542 on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
