Calvert
June 3, 1942 – December 14, 2025
Gerald Lee (Jerry) Calvert, 83, of San Antonio FL, died peacefully with his loving wife Janice at his side after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Jerry was born on June 3, 1942 to Bill and Rosie Calvert in Darlington Wisconsin. The oldest of six, Jerry grew up on their dairy farm in Willow Springs. Jerry went to grade school in a one room school house, and survived polio as a child. He was a 4H club member and loved going to the Wisconsin State Fair to show his cows. His favorite story was about the day when he was 3 his mother found him pulling his little sister Connie in a coaster filled with empty soda bottles. They were walking along the highway on their way to the store to redeem the bottles for cash. He always knew how take advantage of a good deal.
He graduated from Darlington High School in 1960. Jerry went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from UW Madison. He worked at the Louis Allis Company in Milwaukee for 38 years spending time in St. Louis, Lexington, Jackson and McMinnville Tennessee before retiring to Tampa Florida.
A proud Badger, one of Jerry's fondest memories, was attending the Rose Bowl in 1994.
Jerry and Jan called Florida home for 25 years and loved to vacation on cruise ships. With over 90 cruises under their belts, ports of call included Alaska, Europe, the Mediterranean, and many trips to the Caribbean. Jerry loved to relax on the balcony while enjoying a glass of wine and count flying fish. He loved meeting new friends on his cruises and had many repeat cruises with new and old acquaintances. Jerry, also enjoyed golfing various courses around the South with friends and his wife, Jan. He volunteered at the Dade City Hall and helping people prepare their taxes was one of his other volunteer positions.
"Papa", as he was known to his grandkids, spent many weeks over summer vacation at the Wisconsin Dells. Soaking up the sunshine at the waterparks and watching them all grow. Jerry enjoyed many days at the Florida beaches at his timeshares with friends and family. The sunshine and water were his go-to "Happy places".
Jerry was a loving husband and father, a faithful friend. Friends describe him as a "sweet man". He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived by his wife Janice, daughters Beth (John) Edwards, Maria (Mark) Zingler, Kristine (Christopher) Guenther and son William (Nicole) Calvert, grandchildren Michaela, Jack (Zoe), Maxwell, Joseph (Charisma), Dylan, Kallie, and Jacob, and great granddaughter Launa.
