On Sunday, May 22nd, 2022, George Sowa, loving husband and father of three passed away peacefully at the age of 90 at Sturgill Care Center in Brooksville, FL.
George was born in Sandy Run, PA on July 26th. 1931 and grew up in White Haven, PA. He joined the Air Force at 19 where he served as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1954, he attended Trenton Technical School for electronics. After his graduation, he partnered with Oscar Lamb at Lamb and Sowa TV. When Mr. Lamb retired George started Triangle TV which later became the first Radio Shack franchise in the United States.
In June of 1956 during his time at Lamb and Sowa TV George met the love of his life, Eileen, at Hightstown Country Club. A storybook romance led to a wedding on November 10th, 1956. Over the next 65 years, they would create many beautiful memories together. Some of those highlights being the birth of their three amazing children in 1958, 1959, and 1962. The years passed quickly as their children grew and started families of their own. After 15 years in electronics, he sold Radio Shack and purchased a newly built Best Western Hotel located in Zephyrhills, FL in 1978. In 1981 the couple relocated permanently to FL in 1981 where they worked as partners in business for many years. Through hard work and an abundance of love, the hotel remains in the family four generations later. It was recently renamed The Roadstar Hotel Zephyrhills. When he wasnt working George enjoyed tinkering in the garage or sitting with his wife on their gazebo.
George is preceded in death by his father Demetrius, his mother Helen, and his six siblings John, Julia, Mary, Helen, Joseph, and Genevieve. George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eileen, and his three children. Eileen Stevens of Zephyrhills, FL., George (Lisa) Sowa of Yardley, PA., and John Sowa of Zephyrhills, FL.
