George A. Dittman, of Zephyrhills, passed away suddenly on May 9, 2017. Born inMaspeth, Queens, New York, September 20, 1931 to George and Mary Dittman.George achieved the rank of Corporal in the United States Army and served activeduty and reserves from 1953 through 1960. As part of Company "C" 354th EngineerConstruction Battalion he worked as a heavy equipment operator. George wasawarded the Occupation Medal of Germany and the National Defense Service Medal.Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Army, George returned to civilian life wherehe resumed his position as Shipping Clerk with Avakian Brothers, an import/exportoriental rug company in New York City for the next forty years.An avid fisherman, George called Jones Beach State Park's Fishing Piers in Wantagh,NY his family's weekend home away from home. Even more than fishing, Georgeloved bowling and was part of many bowling leagues in New York and most recentlyat the Pin Chasers Bowling Lanes in East Pasco, Florida.George is survived by his daughters Georgiana Marshen, Leonora Spadaro, son FrankDittman and grandchildren, Jennifer Mazurkewitz (ne Marshen), Amanda Marshen,Samantha Dittman, Brianna Dittman, Nicholas Spadaro, Francesco Spadaro, AngelinaSpadaro. He is preceded in death by his wife Antonina Dittman (ne Piazza).Arrangements are with Hodges Family Funeral Home, Hwy 54, Zephyrhills.Thursday May 11 from 4:00-7:00pm. Friday, May 12 service at the funeral homebeginning at 10:30am. Internment with military honors at Florida National Cemetery,Bushnell at 12:30pm.In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the American LungAssociation of Florida, Tampa.
