Gary E. Stanley, 63, GYSGT, U S Marine Corps, Retired, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Lake City Medical Center. A substitute teacher at both Bell, Florida High School and Middle School, he was also head coach of Bell Middle School Junior Varsity Baseball. In the 1980s, Gary assisted his grandfather,Jesse Stanley, in coaching American Legion Baseball and was currently associated with the Suwannee Officials Association. He retired from the USMC after Desert Storm. During Viet Nam he received a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and multiple other awards and decorations. Survivors include: a son, Brent Stanley, Colorado; daughter, Trina Oquendo and her husband Angel, of Trinity; two grandchildren, Jovie and Chloe Oquendo also of Trinity; his father and stepmother, Ronald and Linda Stanley of Wesley Chapel; a brother Jon Stanley and his wife Colleen, of Chattahoochee; a sister, Rhonda Brewer and her husband Craig of Islamorada, FL; a half-brother, Rick Govreau, Orlando; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Emma Govreau. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the 5th Street Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, September 7, 2012 with Rainey Council officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Floral Memory Gardens Dade City.
