Gary Lee "Spoelly" Spoelhof, 80, of Dade City, Florida, passed away on
Saturday, May 11, 2024. Born on June 10, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to
John and Bernadine Spoelhof, Gary was known for his sense of humor and his
love for joking around and giving people a hard time.
Gary was a dedicated husband to Ann Spoelhof, whom he married on
September 14, 1985, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While living with dementia,
Gary's deep affection for Ann remained evident. He would often ask her to marry
him again, a heartfelt gesture that reflected the depth of his love for her.
Gary had a deep love for his children Kevin Spoelhof (deceased), Kristen (Andy)
Weaver, Tami Karston, Jill (Craig) Vyn, and Nathan Blakemore. He eagerly
anticipated updates about his grandchildren, Samantha Karston, Cameron
Weaver, Carmen (Chris Haveman) Vyn, Sydney Karston, Jada Vyn, Sean
Karston, Ari Vyn, Carson Weaver, and Courtney Weaver, and cherished the hugs
he received from them.
He is survived by his siblings John (Judy) Spoelhof and Beverly (Don)
Hunderman. Gary was preceded in death by his sister Kathy Spoelhof.
Gary served his country with honor, dedicating six years to the Air National
Guard. He had a passion for golf, spending time with friends, reading, and
watching westerns and Hallmark movies, as well as all sports. Gary particularly
enjoyed reminiscing about his time playing basketball in high school.
In his final months, those close to Gary enjoyed how willing he was to share his
more gentle side.
Gary will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of
knowing him. A memorial service will be planned for a future date in Michigan
