Garnard Martin, 86, went to be with our Precious Lord on April 22, 2021, peacefully at home with his loving wife after a long struggle with many health issues. He was born in Mousie, Kentucky, October 25, 1934, to Hubbard and Amy Slone Martin. An avid basketball player, he earned a scholarship in basketball at Eastern Kentucky University and earned a degree in education. Garnard honorably served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a Disabled American Veteran. He taught elementary, and secondary school for over 27 years in Ohio and Florida. His love of family, basketball and research lead him to researching and writing many genealogy and basketball book. He was an active member of the Zephyrhills Church of Christ. Loving Gods work, he taught classes and diligently worked on class material for the young peoples Bible Classes.
Survived by his loving wife Linda Pogue Martin of 46 years, sons: Barry Phillip Martin, Chris Garnard and Janell Ahrens Martin, grandsons: Paul Martin and John Martin, granddaughter: Audrey and Ben Morrissey. Brothers: Delano and Linda Martin, Marion Martin, and Ralph Martin, sister-in-law: Vonda Martin. Nieces: Debra Martin, Kathy Martin, Charlene Stamper, Patricia Wallen, Angela Slone, Diane Crawford, Denise Cunningham, Susan Meeks, Christine Smith, and Lauren Bevan. Nephews: Jeffery Martin, Michael Martin, Gregg Martin, Justin Martin, Thomas Elyard, Kenneth Martin, Darrel Martin, Lawrence Martin and Michael Henrickson. Several great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Hubbard and Amy Slone Martin, brothers, Albin Martin, James F. Martin, William J. Martin, sister, Minnie E. Martin, parents-in-laws, Archie and Mary Pogue, sisters-in-law, Sharon Henrickson and Debbie Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held 3pm Monday, April 26, 2021 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. The family will receive friends for viewing from 1:30pm up to service time on Monday.
