Obituary

Freddie "Pete" Roland Peterson, 78, of Dade City, Florida, passed away peacefully after an illness on October 6, 2026.

Born on January 11, 1948, in Westville, Florida, Pete lived a storied life distinguished by a strong moral code, adventure, dedicated service, and deep devotion to family. Over the years, his journeys took him from Florida, California, and North Carolina to international stations in Japan, Guam, and Germany.

Senior Chief Peterson was known throughout the United States Navy as a servant leader and a beacon of competence.

Wherever life led him, Pete brought a steady presence, warm humor, and an enduring commitment to those he loved. He was completely devoted to his marriage of 54 years and to the family he and his wife built together. Pete found great joy in fishing, golfing, showing his grandchildren his suave dance moves, and simply being surrounded by family and friends. Above all, he was an exceptional leader, a loving husband, a pillar of strength to his children, and an endless source of wisdom and stories for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pete was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Pamela Peterson, and his grandsons, Brian Kohler and Freddie Peterson III.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Kay Lynn Peterson; his children, Freddie R. Peterson Jr., Ryan D. Peterson, and Heather D. Peterson; and his 13 cherished grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
