Franklin Roosevelt Smith, 81, of Dade City, passed peacefully into Jesus loving arms on the afternoon of Sunday, June 19, 2016. He was born in Tifton, GA, on July 31, 1934, to William Lester Smith and Eula Mae Johnson Smith, and raised in Macon, GA. His parents, siblings and one grandson preceded him in rest. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ana; daughters Valerie, Vivian and Barbara Bobie; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school, he spent 20 years in the Navy, was a member of the Fleet Reserve for 10 years, attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, and worked for 7 years as an Air Force civilian prior to moving to FL in 1980. He and Ana formerly owned Franks Country Kitchen in Trilacoochee and the E&M Restaurant in Dade City. He was a parishioner at St. Rita Catholic Church, VFW Lifetime Member and member of the VFW Honor Guard. After his retirement from business, he was a transporter for dealerships, prepared meals for various groups at the First Presbyterian Church of Dade City, and was an advisor for the Naval Sea Cadet Command, Tampa Chapter. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Hodges Family Funeral Home, 11441 US Hwy 301, Dade City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of the donors choice.
