In Loving Memory of Florence Galligan (1940-2025)

A life of love, light and legacy

It is with both sad and grateful hearts that we share the passing of Florence Galligan, who died peacefully at her home on February 22, 2025. Florence was a source of light for so many, always known for her wisdom, kindness, and strength.

Florence grew up in Bayside Queens, New York, as the youngest of the five Glynn sisters, with whom she maintained a lifelong bond. She cherished their many lighthearted conversations over a pot of well steeped tea. She married Tom Galligan of Canton, Massachusetts, and moved to New England, settling in Avon, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children: Mary, Tom, Andrew, and Kristin.

In Avon, Flo formed numerous dear friendships and actively supported activities in the community, including Boy Scouts, school events, and the Avon Park and Rec Swim Program. She later earned an associate degree in graphic art and design from Blue Hills Technical College and began a career at The New England of Boston.

Following the death of her husband, Flo relocated to Betmar Village in Zephyrhills, Florida, in 2008. There, she cultivated lasting friendships, traveled, and spent time with her grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Nana. Flo valued meaningful conversations, sharing informed opinions, and having fun. She adored her companion Trixie, a long-haired chihuahua whose personality mirrored her own.

Flo was a talented seamstress, creative homemaker, avid camper, gardener, fearless advocate, devoted friend, and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by many near and far including her beloved nieces and nephews, her lifelong friends from Bayside, and so many more "Friends of Flo".

Florence is survived by her children: Mary Galligan and her husband John Bourgeois (Seattle, WA); Tom Galligan and his wife Kelly (Wakefield, Ma); Kristin Seaver and her husband Chris (Narragansett, RI); as well as her eight grandchildren: Kayla and Africa Bourgeois, Emily and Jack Galligan, John and Bridget Glendye, and Megan and Ally Seaver. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Galligan; her son Andrew J. Galligan; and her sisters Sr. Mary Glynn, Catherine Olsen, Pat Kraft, and Jane Butcher.

Florence Galligan may have left this world, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life ceremony will be announced by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or the ASPCA in Florence's memory.
