DuQuesnay, Father Damian J. 96, the oldest living monk in Saint Leo Abbey, passed away Friday morning, May 8, 2015. The Saint Leo Community mourns the loss of Father Damian, he was a remarkable man of faith and greatly loved and admired by the monks and all that knew him. Father Damian was born July 24, 1918 in Highgate, Jamaica to Charles LeMercier & Mary Emily Malabre DuQuesnay. He made his monastic profession on June 24, 1941 and was ordained on June 20, 1946. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor Degree by Saint Leo University for his large career teaching and serving the community of Saint Leo, the Monks, the Sisters of Holy Name Priory and the University. Father Damian was an exemplar human being, monk and mentor to many of his community and quite possibly the first Jamaican to wear the Benedictine habit. The Funeral Mass for Father Damian will take place 4:30pm, Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Abbey Church. Friends will be received for viewing from 10am Friday morning till service time (4:30pm) at the Abbey Church. After the Eucharist, friends are invited to have a small dinner with the monastic community and request that you RSVP the number of guests attending the dinner.
