ROWELL, Evelyn Sumner, 84, a lifelong resident of Dade City, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at her residence. Evelyn was born July 28, 1937 to Claude & Mabel (Everidge) Sumner. She attended school in Dade City and was a 1955 graduate of Pasco High School. Later in life Evelyn attended Pasco-Hernando Community College and continued her education at the University of South Florida, completing her Bachelors and Master's Degree in Education. While attending college she was a member of the Phi Beta Lambda Society. During her teaching career, she was head of the Business Department and was actively involved in the Future Business Leaders of America. Evelyn was a caring and giving wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived life to its fullest and loved entertaining and laughing with her friends and family. She was quick witted and had a keen sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her parents (Claude and Mabel Sumner,) her sister (Carole Croft,) and her husband (Glenn Rowell). She is survived by her three sons, Derek (Betsy) Rowell of Dade City, Scott (Tammy) Rowell of Dade City, and Tyler (Robin) Rowell of Wilmington, DE, and a daughter Carla (Robert) Southern of Dade City. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Kayla Rowell, Chelsie Rowell, Courtney (Zack) Reynolds, Travis Southern, Renee Southern, Natalie Rowell, Nathan Rowell, and two step grandchildren Michael Jackson and Matthew Jackson. There will not be a formal service, however, the family would like to welcome everyone in honoring her with a visitation Thursday, July 28, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Hodges Funeral Home on Hwy. 301 in Dade City. Those wanting to remember Evelyn with a donation in lieu of flowers are asked to consider the SPCA of Hernando County, 9075 Grant St, Brooksville, FL 34613. She had a big heart for animals and always did what she could to rescue them.
