FISCHER, Eugene M. "Gene," age 65, from San Antonio, died Friday, on February 12, 2016 in a car accident. He was born in New York City, NY. He graduated from St. Agnes Boy's High School in 1968. He came to Florida to attend Saint Leo College for two years, and decided to join the Air Force on October 12, 1970. He later received his Associates Degree from the Air Force. He was active for almost sixteen years, and received an honorable discharge May 15, 1986. During his service he was stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL; Lakenheath AFB in England, UK; Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas, where his son, Michael, was born; and Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, North Carolina. During his service he received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal With Four Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon With Two Oak Leaf Clusters, and The NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon. After his discharge he went on to sell life insurance and annuities for four years, during which he moved to San Antonio, FL. He then spent three years teaching at Saint Anthony's Parochial School, until he finally settled down working in the security industry. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Rita of San Antonio, FL; his son, Michael and wife, Laura, and their daughters, Shelby and Makenzie also in San Antonio; his mother, Agnes, sister Gina and her wife Cindy, all from Fort Collins, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate. There will be a Rosary and visitation service Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Joseph, FL. The funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Sacred Heart as well. Visitation
