Ernest Douglas Young, 88, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Zephyrhills, Florida, on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.Doug was born to Ernest S. and Sophia A. Young in Berkley, MI on May 11, 1930. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe in the early 1950s. He worked at General Motors for 13 years and operated Young's Lumber through the 1970s. He married Marcia Niles Laucks in March 1962 and became devoted stop-dad to her two sons, Lloyd "Mickey" and Steven Paul Laucks. They added a daughter to the family, Sandra Kay Young, and then relocated to Metamora, Michigan in 1970. Doug and Marcia retired to Zephyrhills in 1990. They enjoyed "snow-bird life" between Zephyrhills and their northern Michigan cottage for many years. Doug faithfully cared for Marcia until she passed away in 2010 after a long illness. Doug married his new-found sweetheart, Jean Nichols, in 2015, at the age of 85. They enjoyed attending The Alliance Church, McDonalds for breakfast with friends every morning, and travel in the motorhome together.Doug's passion for automobiles spanned his entire life-time. He enjoyed working on his classic cars and attending car shows with his 'car buddies'--even the night preceding his death.Doug lived a life of integrity, well respected among friends and family. Known as a humble man, loving husband, trustworthy friend, wise father, Doug will be missed among everyone who knew him.Doug is survived by his wife, Jean Nichols; two sons, Lloyd "Mickey" and daughter-in-law Cheryl Laucks (Metamora, MI) and Steven and daughter-in-law Debbie Laucks (Iron Station, NC); his daughter Sandra Smith and son-in-law Steven Smith (Ocala, FL); grandsons Parker (Kelly) Smith ; Seattle, WA, Palmer (Rayne) Smith, Columbia, SC, Preston (Adrianna) Smith, Ocala, FL; Jean's children, Rick (Beth), White, Missy Stevens, and Cheri Taylor; and one very sweet great-granddaughter, Ariadne Smith, Seattle, WA.Doug's final resting place will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
