In Loving Memory of Elbert Rollins “Bert” Whitmire
November 9, 1955 – July 8, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bert Whitmire, who entered into eternal rest on July 8, 2026, at the age of 70.
Bert was born on November 9, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. To Elizabeth (Priss) and Eugene (Gene) Whitmire.
Bert was the devoted husband of Cynthia (Cindy), his high school sweetheart, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and countless cherished memories.
He was a loving father to his daughters Melissa and Beth and father-in-law to Mike and Nick. Bert was an incredibly proud grandfather to his 6 grandchildren Blake, Chase, Kailey, Mckenna, Ainsley, and Bradley, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He and Cindy treasured every opportunity to spend time with their children and grandchildren and rarely missed a chance to be together for holidays, celebrations, and everyday moments. Bert also enjoyed coaching his grandsons’ football teams, creating memories that they will carry with them forever.
A proud veteran, Bert honorably served in the United States Air Force and later continued his service in the Air Force Reserves, proudly serving with the honor guard. Where he participated in military funeral honors and ceremonial events.
Bert dedicated more than 35 years of his career as a Senior Mechanical Engineer with Honeywell Aerospace, where his knowledge, dedication, and work ethic earned the respect of his colleagues.
Bert had a lifelong passion for aviation. As a pilot, he found peace and joy in flying and had a deep fascination with anything related to airplanes. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and looked forward each year to attending the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Whether he was watching a race, talking about aviation, or simply spending time with those he loved, Bert embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude.
Above all else, Bert’s greatest accomplishment and deepest love was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, quiet strength, and unwavering love touched everyone who knew him. His legacy will live on through the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
