Elaine McKendree Benjamin passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at her beloved daughters home in Maitland, Fla.
Born July 5, 1942, in Bainbridge, Ga., she was the daughter of a Pasco pioneer familythe late Hubert McKendree of Dade City, Fla., and Pauline Bishop of Whigham, Ga.and lived in Zephyrhills for more than 70 years.
Elaine was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, the P.E.O. Chapter BG of Zephyrhills, the ZHS Sports Alumni Association, and the ZHS 100 Planning Committee. She worked for more than 40 years as a medical clinic laboratory supervisor and PRN and was a devoted reader and avid tennis fan who loved music, especially big philharmonic orchestras. She traveled often, including to London to see the Royal Philharmonic perform, and she had a genuinely special way with peoplemaking instant, heartfelt connections with almost everyone she met. She remained lifelong friends to those she grew up with in Zephyrhills until her recent passing.
She is survived by her daughter, Teryl McLane, son-in-law Keith McLane, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sharron Bush, and her brother Arthur McKendree.
A visitation will be held at Hodges Funeral Home, located at 11441 US Highway 301 in Dade City, Fla., on Friday, September 16, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, at New Hope Baptist Church, located at 3514 Allen Rd Zephyrhills, Fla.
