A lifelong resident of Pasco County, he was active in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church as a lector, choir member, member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Sixty-three years ago Eddie joined the Knights of Columbus Council 1768 and was an Honorary Life Member. Eddie was born in the Jovita building in San Antonio, built by his grandfather in the 1920s, where he and his eight siblings were raised. He attended St. Anthony School where he started a year early and skipped a grade allowing him to graduate from Saint Leo College prep school at age 16. He maintained a longstanding relationship with Saint Leo where he received the Benedictine Spirit award in 2007. Many people will remember Eddie as the "Culligan Man" from the late 1950s through the 1970s where his countywide travels piqued his curiosity for historical people and place names. After selling the Culligan business, he began working as a meter reader for the Tampa Electric Company and continued to travel around the area. His love of history led to his membership in the Pasco County Historical Society where he contributed to several books on places within Pasco County and co-authored "Historic Places of Pasco County." Additionally, he established several time capsules, including some for the City of San Antonio and Pasco County. He also contributed to the naming of Centennial Elementary School. His inquisitive nature led him to visit the Worlds Fair in 1967 and to take his whole family on road trips, including a trip to Valdosta, Georgia in 1972 to view the total solar eclipse. His strong love for the community led to his service to city government, the San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department, and the Pioneer Florida Museum. It was with the Museum that he served on several committees and where he provided winemaking demonstrations for many years. Among his many accomplishments, Eddie was the recipient of the Rotary Foundations Paul Harris Fellow Award. His involvement with the San Antonio Jaycees led to his co-founding the San Antonio Rattlesnake Festival, now in its 51st year.
