IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dr Michael Grant
Marshall
January 15, 1943 – May 31, 2021
With profound sadness, we announce the loss of our beloved father and husband, Dr. Michael Grant Marshall. Mike passed away peacefully at home in Zephyrhills, FL, from complications due to Alzheimers on Monday May 31, 2021.
Born on January 15, 1943, Mike grew up in Adrian, MI. A star athlete in high school, Mike played football, basketball and baseball, eventually pursuing baseball as his first profession. Passing away exactly 54 years after he debuted in the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Mike was a man ahead of his time. While many remember his 14-year record-setting major league baseball career, his family and friends remember an exceptional, courageous, and devoted husband, father, hero and friend.
Mikes proudest professional accomplishments included earning his PhD in physiology and kinesiology in 1978, working as a Division II college instructor and head baseball coach, and opening a pitching training camp. Known simply as "Doc" or "Coach" to the hundreds of people he taught and helped, Mike developed and advocated for a pitching method he believed would eradicate pitching arm injuries. His belief and passion proved so strong that he created drmikemarshall.com, freely sharing his vast years of education and experience to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Erica Smith-Marshall; three daughters, Deborah, Rebekah, and Kerry; four grandchildren, three siblings and their families, and many cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Hal Marshall, his mother, June (Van Wagner) Parker, and stepfather, Arthur Parker.
Mikes ashes will be interred at Chapel Hill Cemetery during a private service to be held at a future date. The family is grateful for condolences and donations to one of Mikes favorite charities, The Southern Poverty Law Center.
