Obituary

Lloyd and Sandra (Sandy) Konyha of Zephyrhills, FL, entered their Saviors presence, separated for only 11 days, after nearly 65 years of marriage. Lloyd and Sandy met after agreeing to a blind date. They were married 11 months later on September 7, 1957, in Croswell, MI, and were inseparable sweethearts who sincerely loved and served God and each other.

Lloyd, age 89, was born on January 15, 1933, in Memphis, MI, to Anton and Florence (Boadway) Konyha and took his last earthly breath on June 14, 2022. Sandy, age 84, was born on June 30, 1937, in Port Huron, MI, to Carson and Ethel (McPherson) Kinde and took her last earthly breath on June 3, 2022. They are healed of their infirmities and enjoying eternal life together in heaven.

Lloyd served his country for two years in the U.S. Army, graduated from Michigan State with a doctorate in veterinary medicine (1960), and later obtained a master of science from The Ohio State University (1967). After three years working as assistant veterinarian to Dr. "Arnie" Hentschl in an animal practice, Lloyd began his government career. Starting as a sectional Veterinary Medical Officer and culminating as Regional Director, each new position involved a promotion and relocation, offering him and Sandy the adventure of living in nine different states. Lloyd achieved Senior Executive Service, the highest rank possible in civilian service, due to his intellect, work ethic, attention to detail, and love of animals. While with the Department of Agriculture, Lloyd received awards honoring his superior service, including the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive from then President Bush. His last assignment in Tampa, FL, enabled him and Sandy to be near, enjoy time with, and care for their elderly parents.

Sandy attended Port Huron Junior College and earned an associates degree (1957). She was happy when Lloyd began government work since he was seldom home while assisting Dr. Hentschl. She fully supported him through his rising career and many moves, believing there was a special reason why they lived in every place. God provided for them in many ways, including helping them find each new church and residential home. Sandy worked part-time for Sears, allowing her to be available before and after school for their three children. After retiring, she found interest in ceramics, creating and gifting many beautiful pieces. She loved decorating for the seasons, her absolute favorite being Christmas.

Both Lloyd and Sandy modeled and exemplified the importance of faith and family. They served wholeheartedly in a wide range of ministries reaching a variety of ages (Youth for Christ, Boys Brigade, Pioneer Girls, adult and childrens Sunday school, Awana). In later years, Sandy made weekly visits to nursing home residents, and Lloyd enjoyed volunteering with The Gideons International. They prioritized and loved their family, providing countless opportunities for recreation and fellowship together throughout the years. Their family loved them and is grateful for their positive influence, persistent prayers, and unwavering support. During their final years, Lloyd and Sandy received compassionate and loving assistance from Home Instead caregivers, who feel like family.

They are survived by their daughter Raelyn (Joe) Mitchell of Zephyrhills, FL; son Kevin (Sharon) Konyha of Ash Grove, MO; daughter Vicki (Paul) Gard of Brownsburg, IN; brother Dr. Marvin (Jan) Konyha of Boyertown, PA; sister Lula (Ben) Bennett of Goodells, MI; and many precious grand, great, and great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Time of Remembrance will be held at Alliance Church of Zephyrhills, 6251 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, FL, 33542 on Saturday, July 30 at 11 a.m. A short visitation will take place from 10:30 until the time of the service. Attendees are also invited to a reception afterward.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Lloyd and Sandy to The Gideons International, East Pasco Camp, P.O. Box 1105, Zephyrhills, FL 33539.
