Douglas Jay (Anchor) Easterberg , 68 of Dade City, FL passed away December 17th, 2021 at St Joseph Hospital in Tampa, FL.
Doug wa born October 3, 1953, in Clay Center, Ks. He was the son of Dale and Murle Easterberg of Green KS. He was the 5th of 6 children . He went to grade school in Green, KS graduating there then on to High School, CCCHS in Clay Center, KS graduating with the Class of 1971. During School he worked at Buseman Oil Company in Green. After graduation he attended Vo-Tech school in Manhattan,KS in drafting. In September 9th 1972 he married his High School sweetheart Laurene Bertrand in Clay Center. They resided in the country North of Clay. Here our first son was born March 23, 1973, Shane Douglas.
While working for his drafting job Doug needed gas money to get to and from Junction City. He was hired at Keg's Clothing Company in 1972 part time. He loved this job and quit the drafting job and went full time. From here the store bought another one in Goodland, KS for him to be manager. They all moved from Clay in July 1975. Life in Goodland was great, he loved the business and people in the area they immediately made us feel welcome. He eventually became part Owner of the store. Here is where our 2' son Adam Anthony was born March 27, 1977.
In late 80s the small town was not doing well in farming and businesses suffered. We were fortunate to have a Vo-tech School there. Doug accepted and enrolled in Tele-communications. He had employees running the business till after school when he arrived. Before him graduating they had a close of business sale and Goodland Clothing was closed. He graduated NWKAVTS in May 1991 in the top of his class.
Doug was offered a job with Commnet Cellular in Pocatello, ID. We moved June 1991 leaving many great friends behind. Here we got hooked on travel to Mexico and the Caribbean along with snow skiing. Doug worked for Commnet with the company changing names several times. From Idaho after 5 years he was promoted to go to Denver, Co where we made home in Castle Rock, Co. September 1995. Through hard work and many long hours he was again promoted to a RF Manager with now Verizon Wireless. We moved in July of 2000 making our new home in Grapevine, TX. We loved the area and were introduced to the Wine Pouring Society. Was fun exploring the wine country all around Texas and being a part of the Grapefest Festival.
Work got exhausting for us both and our youngest son Adam and family moved from TX to Florida and told us we were coming to. Laurene retired in October 2012, Doug finished up his work and retired in May 2013. We loaded up and moved finding a beautiful home and neighborhood in Dade City, FL.
Here we enjoyed numerous beach trips alone and with High School friends. So many places to explore in Florida. Doug enjoyed his yard work here and building decks and just country life in general. He made our home and garage the neighborhood hangout. Was so great to get to know our neighbors and become more like family with them. He was also considered the Honorary Mayor of Bayhead Landing.
Doug was diagnosed in December 2017 with esophagus stage 4 cancer. He didn't want to know stage or predictions just treat the damn stuff. He was treated with chemo treatments for 18 months. Eventually in late 2018 that cancer was gone. In 2019 while vacation with friends in Dominican Republic he had a seizure. He was admitted to the hospital where we was diagnosed that it metastasized to his brain. We were life flighted back to Tampa and admitted to the hospital. Then started pinpoint radiation to the brain. More radiation needed and did whole brainwash. This was affecting him a lot in stability and memory. More treatment was needed so he had brain surgery December 2019. He was waiting on his next appointment the 23rd if more surgery was an option. With his fall, cancer had spread throughout his brain. He passed away peacefully in his sleep.
