Obituary

Dot passed away on October 5th at the age of 91 after a battle with cancer. She was born on August 1, 1925 in Canton, OH and was the fifth child of Richard and Esther Howell. She grew up on a farm in Youngstown, OH with her parents and four brothers; Dick, Edward (Bud), Bob and David. During WWII she worked at the local arsenal making bombs for the war. After WWII in 1945, Dot moved with her family from Youngstown to the Tampa/Temple Terrace community at the age of 20. She worked as a waitress in the downtown Tampa Maas Brothers until she met and married the love of her life Howard McCartney. For the next 40+ years she lived and worked in the Temple Terrace Community at various local restaurants including Touchtons and Luptons BBQ. Dot had four children; Jack McCartney, Howard "Howie" McCartney, Debbie McCartney Gerlach and Cindy McCartney Hammer. She decided to retire in 1993.

Dot loved spending time with her family and friends as well as traveling. She said many times she would rather fly than eat. In particular she loved visiting her family and spending time in the mountains. Dot had the most beautiful smile that would shine when family and friends visited. She was also considered a second Mom to many people. Dot was the last of her generation in the McCartney family as well as the last of her siblings in the Howell family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Dot is preceded in death by her husband Howard McCartney, son Jack McCartney, grandson Dale McCartney, parents Richard and Esther Howell, siblings Dick Howell, Edward "Bud" Howell, Bob Howell and David Howell. She is survived by her son Howard "Howie" McCartney and wife Sarah of Aurora, CO, Debbie McCartney Gerlach and husband Gene of Whitehall, PA, daughter Cindy McCartney Hammer and husband Donald of Dade City, FL and daughter-in-law Nelda McCartney of Tampa. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Gabriel, Ashley, Holley, Joshua, Tamra, Candy, Crystal, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two sister-in-laws, Wanda Howell of Tampa, FL and Donna Howell of Sacramento, CA along with many nieces and nephews.
