Obituary

Donald Howard "Don" Reno, 87, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Fittingly, he was called home to Heaven on his 87th birthday.

Born on June 24, 1939, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Don seemed destined for adventure from the very beginning. His mother often joked that he was "born going 100 miles an hour," a saying that perfectly captured the energetic spirit that defined his life. Whether serving in the Coast Guard, hitchhiking along Route 66, enjoying fast cars, or embracing each new chapter with enthusiasm, Don lived life to the fullest.

At just 17 years old, Don enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, proudly serving from 1956 to 1960 on the Great Lakes and in Washington, D.C., before receiving an honorable discharge. After his military service, he hitchhiked the length of historic Route 66, collecting countless stories and experiences that reflected his adventurous spirit.

Don's career eventually led him to General Motors, where he dedicated 28 years of service in Ohio and Michigan. Working primarily in Tow Motor operations, he later became Head of Quality Control before retiring at the age of 52.

In 1966, Don married Jean Louise Schott, and together they welcomed four children. In 2000, he married Carolyn Sue Reno, and together they shared 26 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, faith, and companionship.

While Don loved fast cars, football, and nearly every sport, those who knew him best will remember his extraordinary love for children and animals. He never passed a child without stopping to smile, and children instinctively smiled right back. His gentle heart led him to encourage countless families to bring their children to church and AWANA, where he faithfully served in children's ministry for more than 20 years through Victory Baptist Church in Zephyrhills and First Baptist Church of Dade City.

A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Don's faith was the foundation of his life. He faithfully listened to Dr. David Jeremiah's teachings each day and was a dedicated member of Discover Fellowship Church. Even after losing much of his eyesight, he faithfully attended worship and small group each Sunday, joyfully making his way with his walker because nothing could keep him from the fellowship he cherished.

Don also loved gathering around the table with family and friends. He had just finished enjoying his birthday celebration meal when the Lord called him home. As Pastor Randy Huckabee beautifully said, "Don went from one celebration meal to another in Heaven."

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Howard LeRoy Reno and Anna Marie (Shiderly) Reno; his sisters, Ethel Belle (Annarelli) Reno, Diana Mae (Mitchell) Reno, and Marie Adeline (Matthews) Reno; and his great-granddaughter, Kaylianna Reno.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carolyn Sue Reno; his former wife, Jean Louise Schott; his children, David Bruce (Sabrina) Reno, Douglas Earl (Kara) Reno, Dean Howard Reno, and Donna Jean Reno; his stepchildren, Timothy Stephen (Kris) Case, Mark Bradley (Deanna) Case, Daniel Paul (Tamie) Case, and Becky Jo (Rob) Roush; 27 grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Don's smile had a remarkable way of lighting up every room he entered. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, joyful service, genuine kindness, and unconditional love for others. His impact on the lives he touched will continue for generations, and he will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed.
