Obituary

Donald R. Hubbard, 76, of Wolcott, NY/ Zephyrhills, FL passed away on December 2nd after a short illness at the VA hospital in Tampa, Florida.Don was born on November 16th, 1944 to John and Anna Hubbard in Lyons NY, he was the youngest of 3 children.He attended school in Wolcott and graduated from Leavenworth High in 1963.After high school, Don entered the Army where he met his lifelong friend Paul Sullivan at artillery OCS at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Together they received orders to Fort Hood, Texas then to Vietnam. They arrived together in Vietnam on October 26th, 1967 and left in October of 1968. Paul was the best man at Dons wedding and continues to be part of the family today.Upon returning home from Vietnam, he met the love of his life, Linda Galvin. The 2 were married on August 2nd, 1969. Together they started off on a life that brought them both joy and happiness. That joy and happiness first took form on January 16th, 1971 with the birth of their first son John William, and then later in 1974 with the birth of Scott Donald. Don and Linda celebrated 51 years together growing a family, a life and a love that shall carry on forever.Along with Linda, Don was well known in the community as a business owner. Together they successfully ran the Wolcott Bowling center and later The Hub Restaurant where they met many people and cultivated a great circle of friends that they hold dear to their hearts.Upon retirement Don and Linda moved to Florida eventually settling in Zephyrhills. Here Don met many new friends who he loved to socialize with and looked forward to the many "Card Parties" where all those friends would come together.Don was a little league coach, a bowling instructor, an avid card player, bowler (with 2-300 games) and golfer. He was a 47-year member of the American Legion, the VFW and the Moose Club. Most of all he was a tremendous supporter of his family especially his 2 sons throughout their sports careers, never missing a game or the chance to provide encouragement.Don was predeceased by his parents John and Anna Hubbard, in-laws William and Vivian Galvin, brother-in-law Steve Galvin, brother-in-law Marvin Stewart and grandson Jackson William Hubbard. He is survived by his loving wife Linda, sister Roseanne Stewart, brother Richard (Margaret) Hubbard, brother-in-law Tom (Paula) Galvin, son John and daughter-in-law Marlaina, son Scott and daughter-in-law Brenda. Grandchildren Kyle (Tash), Josh (Heather), Alissa, Gavin, and Nicolette. Also, great grandson Silas and many nieces and nephews.At Dons request there will be no calling hours. A graveside military service at Bushnell National Cemetery will be held later.In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The American Legion in Phelps, NY for their VA projects in Dons name.Phelps American Legion, 1346 NY Route 96, Phelps, NY 14532
