Donald Shields Hencke 83, of Zephyrhills, FL passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 in New Port Richey under the care of HPH Hospice and surrounded by family. He was born July 23, 1934 in St. Louis, MO to Richard & Bernadette Louise Dierkes Hencke. He attended CBC College High School and Washington University in St. Louis, MO. A US Army Veteran, he enlisted in 1954. Don was a commercial artist by trade, teaching art classes and an art judge for many years for the Florida State Fair Authority. He had a love/hate relationship with a card game called Bridge and was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He loved the outdoors, and scratch-offs, and had a huge heart helping family and friends whenever he could. Donald is survived by 6 children: Jean Hencke Nathe (Robert Jr.), Karl Hencke (Cindy), Kurt Hencke (Patti Reed), Craig Hencke, Edward Hencke (Lori), Gretchen Hencke Watson (Greg); 2 siblings: Paul Hencke (Jeannye) of Maryland, Lois Martin (Tom) of Missouri; his close friend Sally Watson; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A Celebration of his Life will be held 3pm Friday, March 30, 2018 at the 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to HPH Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, FL 34667.
