Diane Tsacrios, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the age of 77. She was born in Clearwater, Florida, on February 6, 1947, to Susie Amelia Hines Tsacrios and George Tsacrios. Raised in both Clearwater and Dade City, Florida, everyone who met her was delighted by her bubbly personality, big smile, beauty, and unconditional love for her friends and family. Diane didnt know a stranger and always made people feel welcome and accepted anywhere she went.
Diane danced from the time she could walk, and especially loved tap. This lifelong passion for dance led to her becoming a cheerleader at both Clearwater High School and Pasco High School and joining Sally Blackwood Studio of Dance after her family moved back to Dade City (her mothers hometown). Diane was one of Miss Sally's first student assistants and danced in Miss Sallys first recital, The Wizard of Oz.
Diane inspired others to join the dance studio and helped many of her fellow dancers with their choreography when they competed in pageants. Dancing was her talent when she competed in, and won, Miss Pasco County 1967. The then-Tampa-Tribune wrote that "a vivacious and talented brunettefrom rural Dade City" was crowned queen. She remained vivacious and talented throughout her life. She enjoyed a special moment when former Miss Pascos were gathered on stage during a pageant reunion and she got to bring her granddaughter on stage with her. Being a grandmother, "Mimi" was the most cherished role to her. Her love of dance, performing, theatre, and cheerleading was passed down to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to dancing, Diane took great joy in cooking, baking and long walks. She loved the mountains of western North Carolina, however Clearwater Beach held her heart. Diane loved Floridas beaches and her personality evoked all that she loved about the beach shining sun and sparkling waters. She loved anything to do with the beach especially seashells.
She was an enthusiastic participant in Dade Citys community and once sat on the local historical preservation board. She spent most of her career in retail and was known for her personal service and always taking an interest in people. Diane was baptized Greek Orthodox and loved visiting Tarpon Springs to connect with the Greek Orthodox church and her Greek heritage. She cherished her church community at Mary's Episcopal Church.
Diane is survived by her daughters, Frances Nevill and Diane Passannante; her son-in-law, Robert Edward Smith; and her grandchildren, Katherine Faye Nevill, Carolyn Delight Nevill, Dane Jacob Smith and Summer Amelia Smith. She is also survived by siblings Susan Camille and William, nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends who loved her dearly.
Her family would like to thank her best friend, Karla Roberts, who was with her throughout her adult life up until the day she passed, and was family to her, offering compassionate and unselfish care and unwavering support.
Diane loved the Lord, her children and her grandchildren. Diane will be missed by everyone.
