Obituary

Dennis Floyd Swoffer Sr, 70, passed away on Wednesday December 29th, 2021 in Riverview, Florida. Denny was born on March 3rd, 1951 in Port Huron, Michigan to Floyd and Betty Swoffer. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen Sue Edie (Swoffer), on August 9th, 1969. Denny was an amazing man who was loved by many. He worked at American Tape for over 45 years, was a successful business owner and was involved in several organizations throughout his lifetime. He was extremely active in the security detail for the annual Blue Water Festival for several years. Denny loved horses and was a member of the Sherriff's Posse and participated in countless parades, the Goodells fair and many other activities throughout his years of service. He loved the parades, helping with security and just being out with the public and talking to people. Anyone that knew Denny knows that he could talk for hours! He co-owned D.F.D Custom T-Shirts for several years and was very proud of his bounty hunting business, Book'em Deno. He cherished his involvement with the St. Clair County Explorers, a program for youth that are interested in law enforcement. Denny was a friend, role model and someone that many looked up to. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and traveling the country in the 5th wheel he shared with his wife and best friend, Kathy. Their travels took them to several southern, mid-western and west coast states. When recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer his only request was to have a huge party with family and friends. That special event took place recently at Zebra Lounge in Port Huron where several friends and family gathered to celebrate with Denny. Denny was overwhelmed with the love, support and to see just how many lives he affected. He returned to his winter home in Zephyrhills, Florida truly knowing how loved he was. Surviving to cherish the memory of Denny include his wife of 52 years: Kathy; father: Floyd Swoffer; daughter: Diana (Todd) Pack; son: Dennis (Tina) Swoffer; four grandchildren: Brianna Swoffer, Jessica Pack, Joshua (Jessie) Pack and Tyler Swoffer; great-grandchild: Eisley Pack; brothers-in-law: Richard (Leona) Edie, Michael (Kathy) Edie and sisters-in-law: Judy (Dave) Wysocki and Betty Sherlock. Denny is also survived by his extended family (the Bland family), several nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. Denny was preceded in death by his mother: Betty Swoffer; sister: Lucy Lambert, brother-in-law: Joseph Lambert Jr.; a special uncle: Mike and several other family members. A memorial service will be held later this summer in his hometown of Port Huron, Michigan. Denny was always willing to help anyone in need and loved touching the lives of others. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the organization that helped him peacefully transition to his final resting place (Gulfside Hospice - https://www.gulfside.org/), to the St. Clair Sherriff Explorers program by making a check out to the St. Clair County Sheriff Explorer's Program (address: St. Clair County Sheriff Department, Attn: Explorer Program, 1170 Michigan Road, Port Huron, MI. 48060 or give to your favorite charity in Denny's name.
