Delmer Fisher Gilbert, 81, passed away on September 7th, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. Delmer was born on January 2nd, 19944 in Haysi, Virginia, to his parents, Lacey and Goldie Gilbert. There, Delmer attended school with his brothers and sisters. He worked on the family farm and in the coal mines, until he decided to join the United States Navy. Delmer would serve in the Navy for 27 years, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class before retiring. After his patriotic career, he returned to college and received his Bachelors in Science. Later, he would start his own business.

On November 27th, 1983, Delmer married the love of his life, Marian, in Grundy, Virginia. Over the years, the duo would live in Virginia, Washington, North Carolina, Texas, Illinois, before ultimately retiring in the sunny State of Florida. Delmer had many hobbies, including fishing, camping, and travel. More than anything, he enjoyed spending precious time with his family.

Delmer is preceded in death by his children, William Lee Gilbert, Melissa Gilbert, and Mary (Cathy) Gaddis; his siblings, Elmer, Gorman, Norman, Onnie, Bonnie, Floria, and T.T.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Gilbert; his children, Misty (Eddie) Hughes and Katrina Gordon; his siblings, Elizabeth Breeding and Reatha Beard; his 20 wonderful grandchildren; and his 35 great grand babies.

Delmer's service is to be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
