Obituary

David Russell Zebra, of San Antonio, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 after a sudden and brief illness. He was born on October 6, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA to E. Russell and Dorothy (Ketterer) Zebra.

Growing up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, David walked to school in the snow, uphill, both ways. He participated in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout badge, the highest honor for a scout. David graduated from Point Park University in Pittsburgh studying Business Administration. Upon graduation, he moved to Mechanicsburg, PA working as a civilian for the US Navy. It was there that he met and married Patricia, and they started a family and had two sons, Scott and Mark.

David and Pat moved their young family to Frederick, MD in 1980 to pursue a career opportunity. David supported the FAA and air traffic management initiatives as a Contracts Administrator and Ethics Officer for 30+ years with IBM, Loral Corporation, and Lockheed Martin. One of David's career highlights was contributing to the project enabling global positioning satellites, now known as GPS, for commercial use. The family attended Trinity United Methodist Church where David served in leadership roles on various church committees.

Upon retirement, David and Pat became snowbirds before deciding to move full-time to an active 55+ community in San Antonio, FL. At Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club (TBGCC), David and Pat experienced a second chapter for their golden years, establishing great friendships and becoming active in the community. David served in leadership roles at New Horizon Methodist Church, and socially he was a member of Elks and the Italian club. Dave also organized weekly Wednesday tee times for a group of neighborhood golfers and coordinated brunch reservations after church each Sunday.

David is preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann (Ward) Zebra, for whom he served as caretaker during her battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by sons Scott (Michelle) and Mark (Anne) as well as six wonderful grandchildren, Jackson, Madeline, Samuel, Nora, Benjamin and Luke, all of whom were a source of joy and pride for their PopPop. With open arms, David welcomed two step-grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Lynch to the family. In addition, he is survived by his sister Pamela Demine (David) and brother-in-law John K Ward (Joanne) and their respective sons and families.

David, who was always quick to offer sage advice, will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to either Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa Bay or the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in honor of David and Pat Zebra.

A celebration of David's life will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00am at New Horizon Methodist Church, 32606 Michigan Avenue, San Antonio, FL 33576. Reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
