Obituary

Danita Lynn (Maust) Mayo, 70, of San Antonio, Florida passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Zephyrhills, Florida. Born on May 22, 1956 in Billings, Montana, Danita lived a life defined by love, strength, and devotion to her family.

Danita was the beloved daughter of Ardon and Arlene Maust. She grew up in Billings, alongside her sister, Laura, where she graduated from Billings Senior High School. Throughout her career, Danita worked for Kmart, Washington Mutual, and Bank of America, where she was known for her dedication and warm spirit.

On August 6, 1988, Danita married the love of her life, George Mayo, at Flaming Arrow Ranch in Bozeman, Montana. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Their life's journey took them from Montana to Washington and eventually to Florida, where they made their home in San Antonio.

Danita found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gardening, canning, cooking, taking walks, and soaking up the Florida sunshine. Those closest to her will never forget her home-cooking, love of bright colors, or her well-established hatred for being woken up early. Her beautiful spirit and unwavering love provided those who knew her with many treasured memories.

She is survived by her husband George, whom she loved for 45 years, and was married for nearly 38; her daughters: Christie (Brandon) Amundson and Alexis (Christopher) Belcher; her mother, Arlene Maust; her sister, Laura (Joe) Scales, and her brother-in-law, Rich (Tana) Mayo. She is also survived by, her grandchildren: Kayla (Carter) Russell, Zach, Sierra, and Jacob Amundson, Briana, Calleigh, Aaslyn, Isabella, Rowan Belcher, and great-grandchildren: Parker, and AJ Russell, and Esmeralda Amundson, her cherished friends Leslie, Dave & Janie, Matt & Louise, Dave & Diane, and her beloved dog, Bear.

Danita was preceded in death by her father, Ardon Maust; her mother-in-law, Marie Mayo and her beloved pets Tana, Pickles, and Kasey.

Danita's legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched with her generosity and grace. Though she will be profoundly missed, her love and memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. ❤️

"Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near."
