Obituary

MARCH, Cynthia Lynn Cindi 54 of Dade City died on Tuesday, Dec 1, 2015 at her residence following an all too brief illness. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Dr. Paul March of Dade City, her daughter Jennifer (Steve) Augustine of Columbia, SC, sons David and Shawn both of Knoxville, TN, Douglas of Ashville, NC, and Andrew of Dade City, and two Grandchildren, Ellie and Benjamin Augustine. Cindi was born in Peoria, IL to Walter & Janet (Withee) Smoot. She moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1975 and graduated several years later from Hillsborough High School in Tampa. She worked for many years as a respiratory therapist in numerous hospitals in the in Tampa Bay area. Over the past several decades, Cindi has been a valued member of her community She volunteered with the Alzheimers Association, was a longtime member of the Pilots Club in Zephyrhills, and was the Chairperson of the parents committee for troop 72 (Zephyrhills) of the Boy Scouts of America. She was also a longtime member Congregation Ohr Chadash in Clearwater. In more recent years, Cindis generosity and compassion led her to co-found (with her husband) Opening Doors Worldwide, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people who have little and live in some of the poorest parts of the world by providing access to education, jobs, healthcare, and clean water. Beyond the profound ways Cindi has touched the lives of members of her community and communities abroad, Cindi will always be remembered for her bright smile, her warm heart, and her infectious laugh; her talent for sewing and passion for quilting, antiques, and all things kitschy; her burning desire to feed as many people as possible with as much food as they could handle; the ways she celebrated the holidays, always remembered to send her family and friends cards at every holiday, and created cherished holiday traditions; her zeal for travel and adventure and the postcards she sent and the mementos she picked up for others from travels around the world; her soulful and lovely singing voice; the special connection she found with the beautiful Southern Shore of Newfoundland, Canada, which brought her great peace of mind and great friends; her sense of humor and quick wit; and the countless lessons about life and family she imparted on her children. Cindis family will receive friends on Sunday, Dec 6th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Hwy 301 Chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home in Dade City. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, Dec 7th at the same location. She will be laid to rest at Gan Shalom Cemetery in Lutz, FL.
