Cornelius Bowman (Mac) McCabe passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the age of 86. His peaceful death was guided by the gentle care of Gulfside Hospice. He was predeceased by his parents Cornelius Patrick and Effie Mary McCabe, beloved sisters, Nancy Counihan, Patricia Reynolds, Effie Finora and brother Richard McCabe. His greatest sorrow was the death of his eldest son Mark Bowman McCabe.
Mac is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Betty, his daughter Lisa Bessenger (Les), son James McCabe (Ana) and sister Eileen Watson. His remaining family includes grandchildren, Raven Thompson (Keonte), Morgan McCabe, Patrick McCabe, Marshall McCabe, Bowman Archibald, Garrett Archibald, great grandson Kane Thompson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mac was born and raised in San Antonio, Florida, roaming the citrus groves and cattle pastures surrounding Lake Kersey. He attended St Leo Preparatory before graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Agriculture Engineering. He served our country in the United States Air Force as a flight navigator. Mac returned home to manage Lake Kersey Grooves alongside his father. He and his wife raised their family within site of his birth place. Mac would later focus on building an ornamental nursery with his son James.
In retirement, Mac continued his love for horticulture by creating an extensive rose garden whose blooms were enjoyed by family and friends.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, southern manners, work ethic and sharp intelligence.
A private memorial ceremony will be held at a later date for the family.
