Obituary

Conrad P. Foss, 78, of Wesley Chapel, FL, passed away at home surrounded by his wife and three sons on September 23, 2022. He was born in Athens Ohio, October 13,1943, the first son of George and Virginia Foss. He spent his early years in Athens and attended Athens HS where he played four sports but was only involved with basketball and track & field his last two years. Conrad was always proud to have been a member of the "61 AHS team that won the first SEOAL Championship for HOF coach Charles McAfee. He joined the Marine Corp in 1961 and was Honorably Discharged as a Vietnam Veteran in 1965. He then went to San Mateo Community College where he played basketball for the Bulldogs and legendary coach Jack Avina. In 1966, he returned to Athens and attended Ohio University. In 1974, on his birthday, Conrad received what he always called the greatest gift of his life", a life philosophy. One that he studied, was totally committed to, and lived by for the remainder of his life. With this, he returned to Athens and Ohio University to pursue graduate studies and become a licensed therapist. While continuing his studies he began his work in behavioral healthcare. Conrad was always extremely proud of his two degrees from Ohio University and is the first in his family to achieve a college education. In 1977 Conrad married Barbara Ann Beye (Boardman, Ohio). She was absolutely the ideal partner and wife. Barbara completed his life and was always there for him. After six years of working in a variety of positions in behavioral healthcare, Conrad was named as Hospital Administrator at his first Hospital, a 128-bed hospital in Cincinnati. He would later accept two other positions as CEO/ Hospital Administrator (Coral Springs Florida / St. Louis Missouri) before being promoted to Senior Management at the corporate office. In 1994 Conrad was granted early retirement as a member of Executive Management of Comprehensive Care Corporation. He then turned to what had always been his first love and life goal, to coach basketball and work with young people. Throughout his life, he volunteered to coach youth sports and helped with the organizational administration starting in 1980. Over the next few years, he coached at the Middle School, High School, and Division II College level but eventually settled where he saw himself most effective, travel/club basketball. In 1996 he founded and became President of what would eventually become Florida Elite Basketball, Inc. In its prime, Florida Elite became one of the premier and most dominant programs in the nation. Over the 25 years, Conrad saw over 350 players come through the Florida Elite program and go on to play college basketball, including four First Round NBA draft selections and more than four dozen players that played professionally. In his spare time, Conrad was an avid golfer and loved traveling, especially with family. Conrad absolutely adored his three sons and was extremely involved in their lives. He always saw his role as being much more than just their father. He was extremely proud of all three and the husbands, fathers, and men that they had become. Conrad was a 32nd degree Mason (1981), member of WH Cheviot Lodge 140. Brother Foss was also a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati, Princes of Jerusalem, and Rose Croix. He was a member of the Florida American Legion and a supporter of Tunnel to Towers and Folds of Honor Foundations. He was also a golf member of the USGA and FSGA. In basketball, he was a member of Natl Assoc. of Basketball Coaches (NABC) since 1998, National High School Basketball Coaches Asssoc. (NHSBCA) and Florida Association of Basketball Coaches (FABC), Board Member. At Ohio University he was a member of The Bobcat Club and The Ohio Basketball Alumni Association.
