Chief Mike Morgan, age 74, of Dade City, FL, passed away peacefully from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis on November 27, 2021. Mike was son of Donald and Ann Morgan, born on December 29, 1946 in Washington D.C.
He is survived by Jane his wife of 51 years; his son Kevin (Heather); his daughter-in-law Kassey; his grandsons Brian, Hayden, Luke, and Simon; his brother Stephen (Elizabeth); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Jeff Morgan (2012). Mike worked in the fire service since 1960 when he began as a volunteer fire fighter in Falls Church, VA, and became highly respected in the field. His involvement spanned many departments including:- Dade City Fire Department - Fire Fighter through Assistant Chief. - Pasco County Fire Department - Training Chief through Assistant Chief. - Spring Hill - Fire Chief- Wakulla County - Fire Chief- Many years of service to the San Antonio Volunteer Fire and Tri-community Fire Departments - Volunteer Fire Chief.
Chief Morgan served various associations and committees:- President of International Society of Fire Service Instructors, Florida Chapter. - President Pasco/Hernando Counties Fire Chiefs Association.- Member of Florida Fire Chiefs Association and Statewide Emergency Response Committee. - President, Florida Chapter of International Fire Service Instructors. - Representative Florida Joint Council of Fire Service Organizations. - Member Disaster Committee Florida Fire Chief's Association.
Chief Morgan was a well-liked teacher:- Pasco Hernando Community College Instructor and Adjunct faculty Director of Fire Academy.- St. Petersburg College, and Fire Academy- Contract Instructor NIMS, ERT. FSFC and NFA Instructor- Member of IMT for FL DEM. Operations Section Chief
He also served as:- President of The Rotary Club of Spring Hill- Chairman of the Deacons, First Baptist Church of Dade City- He served in the Volunteer Mobilization Center and Disaster Operation Center of the North American Mission Board.
Graduate with A.S. in Fire Administration from St. Petersburg College (1979)B.A. Business Administration Saint Leo College (1992)Fire Instructor III Florida State Fire College.
In recent years Chief Morgan spoke many times to various departments about the risk of substance abuse and the need to provide support for members of the emergency services. This grew out of his concern for any who struggled. He organized a Facebook prayer page that ministered to many. Chief Morgans faith in Christ and his love for God led him to reach out to those in need.
Funeral to be held at 11am, Friday, December 3, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Dade City. Visitation at the church beginning at 10am. Funeral will be followed by a graveside service at Mount Zion Cemetery. The services can be found online live at:
