Obituary

Dr. Charles "Jack" John Weitzel of Zephyrhills, FL departed to our heavenly father early on January 9, 2024. Jack arrived in this world on October 24, 1945 in Baltimore, MD to his loving parents Charles and Goldie Weitzel. Destined for a life of servitude to those around him Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1965 to 1969 as a Hospital Corpsman aboard the USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2). His skills provided soldiers injured in the Vietnam War medical attention, including surgeries. This God-given gift was then applied to his lifes passion and Jack was accepted into medical school. In 1976, he graduated from the University of South Florida as a Medical Doctor specializing in general surgery. Jack would go on to serve the greater Tampa Bay area through Brandon Regional Hospital and his own private practice, and later the southwest region in Virginia through Tazewell Community Hospital. Jack ended his practice in 2006 and began a journey to further his commitment to the Lord and spreading the word of the gospel. His trials through life help guide his hand in writing and releasing six books with his first, More Than a Marathon: A Surgeons Journey through the Fire, releasing in 2004. His spiritual growth continued as he earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies in 2010, enhancing his faith and ability to share Gods word to those in need. Through the very end Jack was a part of the church, organizing and attending events to continue his gift of servitude.

Jack grew up in a large loving household of siblings. To include Dr. Ken Weitzel, David Weitzel, Linda Weitzel (Spost), Pamela Weitzel (Miller), and Michael Weitzel.

Jack is survived by a full and loving family, including his wife of 43 years Melinda Weitzel; his daughter Amie (Shelton Reutimann) and her two children Garrett and Connor; his daughter Taylor (Bagwell), her husband Ryan and their child Tanner; his son Timothy and his two children Skyla and Savannah; and his son Scott, his wife Klarrisa and their two children Kiley and Kooper.
