Obituary

Charles Dunn Sheldon (Chuck) of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away in Zephyrhills, Florida on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at age 81. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Martin) Sheldon, and his two daughters, Stephanie McKelvey of Seattle, Washington and Adrienne Sheldon of Annapolis, Maryland. Charles also leaves behind a son-in-law, Daniel Coyne, three grandchildren, Kai (Hazel), David, and Eleanor as well as nieces Elizabeth and Laura, and nephew Mark. Charles was predeceased by his parents Howard and Myrtle (Dunn), his siblings Margaret and Grant, and his nephew Howard. Charles was born in Bethesda, Maryland on February 17, 1941. His father, Howard, was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and served in WWI and in the Aleutian Islands in WWII where he perished in a plane crash in 1945. After his fathers death, his older sister, Margaret, helped his mother to raise him. His mother, Myrtle, was an elementary school teacher and taught for several decades until she turned 70! Charles grew up in Bethesda and was a lifelong fan of baseball. He talked about taking the streetcar in Washington, DC to see Senators baseball games when he was young. He played baseball himself and played for his college team at Bates University in Maine. Ultimately, he received two bachelors degrees; a BA in History from American University (1965) and a BS in Accounting from University of Maryland (1981). Charles was drafted into the Army in 1965 and served during the Vietnam War working as an Ammunitions Specialist in Germany. After his discharge, Charles returned home to Bethesda, MD and met Linda in 1969. Shortly afterwards, they were married. Charles worked for his older brother, Grant, as an HVAC Specialist for a time before returning to school for his accounting degree. After receiving his degree, he worked for the US Government for the Defense Contract Audit Agency for almost 20 years before his retirement. Charles and Linda raised their daughters in Silver Spring, Maryland where they lived for 30 years before moving to Wesley Chapel, Florida upon their retirement. They spent almost 20 years together in Florida enjoying their retirement, exploring the area, spending time with friends and family, and eating out regularly! Charles will be dearly missed by his family and friends but we know he is in Gods hands and take solace in knowing his was a life well lived. Services for Charles will take place at 9:30 am at Hodges Family Funeral Home in Zephyrhills, Florida at 36327 Highway 54 followed by a lunch reception. In remembrance of Charles life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) www.dav.org in his name.
