Charles was a man with a big heart, a generous spirit, and a willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Known for his kindness and selflessness, he was the type of person who would give someone the shirt off his back without a second thought. Fiercely independent and steadfast in his ways, Charles valued his friendships deeply and believed that once you became his friend, you were a friend for life.

His generosity extended to his church, where he volunteered his time and talents painting churches as a way of giving back to his faith community. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially dogs.
His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Faith Pentecostal Church in Dade City. Through his church and throughout the community, Charles formed many lasting friendships and touched the lives of those around him with his generosity and genuine nature.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Mary Louise Key Houghtalin; his son, Chuck Sheets, and daughter-in-law, Teghan; his grandchildren, Carlee Jo, Mason, and Jackson; his brother, Kevin Houghtalin; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Doris Key; his sister-in-law, Sandy Houghtalin; his cousin, Sandy Smith; his nephew, George, and niece, Lisa; his cousins, Marie Aldrich and William, Liz, and Holly Smith; along with many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Edna Houghtalin; his brother, Dennis Houghtalin; and his cousin, Ronnie Aldrich.
Charles will be remembered for his unwavering independence, his generous heart, his love for family and friends, and the countless ways he made life a little brighter for those around him. His kindness, friendship, and willingness to help others will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
A memorial service will be held at Redemption Church of Dade City, located at 17351 Hyland Lane, Dade City, Florida 33523 on Monday, November 2, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
