Charles Arthur Ronald Da Souza, lovingly called "Papi" transitioned peacefully at the age of 70. A resident of Zephyrhills, Florida, he shared 37 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Wilma Alexandra, whom he wed on July 30, 1988, in Corning, New York.
Born on September 14, 1955, in Rose Hall, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Charles was the beloved son of the late Hubert and Irene Da Souza. He was the eldest of their shared children and cherished his place in a large, blended family. He is remembered lovingly by his siblings: Elneth, Taffred, Arthur, Benedict, Charmaine, Susan, Hazel-Ann, Michelle and Patricia. Pre-deceased by his sister, Joesa.
Charles received his early education at the Boy's Grammar School in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. His love for aviation led him to Trinidad, where he completed Air Traffic Control training. He later served with pride and excellence as an Air Traffic Controller at the E.T. Joshua Airport for many years before migrating to the United States.
Upon settling in the U.S., Charles continued to pursue knowledge and professional growth. He earned an Associate of Arts in Drafting from Corning Community College, completed tractor-trailer driver training, studied Surveying at SUNY, and later achieved certification as a Network Engineer, working independently in the field. His mind was always curious, always learning, always expanding.
A man known for his devotion to family, Charles delighted in being the family chef, preparing unforgettable meals seasoned with love, patience, and joy. Cooking was his love language. He held deep passions for aviation and technology, which animated many of his conversations and pursuits.
He leaves to cherish his memory:
His loving wife, Wilma Alexandra of Zephyrhills, FL
His children, Charlene Da Souza Aristide and her husband, Jean, of Tampa, FL; Sudeen Da Souza and his wife, Whitney, of Naples, FL; Richard Bodley of Brooklyn, NY; and Brandon Bodley and his wife, Jahlela of Brooklyn, NY
Charles adored his grandchildren, who brought light to his life: Alyssa, Chloe, Joshua, Zealand, Caleb, Liliana, Justus, and Raegan. He also rejoiced in welcoming his great-grandson, Karmello, the newest joy of the family.
He is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and a host of cousins; each of whom held a special place in his heart. His influence extended across generations, touching their lives with his gentle guidance, warm humor, and steadfast love.
To know Charles was to know warmth, steadiness, and unwavering love. He was the one his family could always turn to—the calm presence, the wise voice, the comforting hands. His favorite Scripture was Ecclesiastes 3: "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven." He lived this truth with grace, embracing each season of life with faith, resilience, and gratitude. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every meal he lovingly prepared, every story he shared, and every heart connected to his.
We give thanks for the life of Charles "Papi" Da Souza—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His memory will forever remain a blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Charles' memory.
